Hosted by the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, with guest speakers from the Visa School of Public Policy, this interactive day-long training covered a forgotten path to financial inclusion: acceptance of digital payments by micro and small merchants, many of whom are often unbanked, and own the neighborhood ''mom and pop'' stores where underserved people live and shop.  The training covered the demographics of small merchants and presented levels of acceptance, and infrastructure, economic and regulatory barriers to acceptance. In group work, participants had the opportunity to propose approaches to overcome barriers and realize the opportunity, and then discuss those in light of lessons learned from global experiences and research.

The school partnered with the Corporate Relations (CR) team in MENA to deliver four workshops aimed to train over 100 journalists in Egypt. The objective of the program was to ensure that journalists understand Visa and our value proposition in the payments industry.

In view of its success in Egypt, the CR team had requested for a workshop in Kiev, Ukraine which we were happy to oblige.
This workshop was held at the Kiev Mohyla Business School, on 4-5 June, 2015. This first workshop received a perfect score of 5.0 for the participants’ overall satisfaction with the training.

Visa was invited to be part of a large Ministry of Commerce (MOC), conference in April 2015. The event was led by Secretary of State, Pan Sorasak and the Director General of the Trade Support Services Department. Event attendance included about 150 participants representing government agencies, financial institutions, local businesses and international organizations.

This event has generated continuous interest by the MOC to engage Visa as a partner in their integration efforts to drive electronic payments for businesses and the government.

The school was involved in two of the three workshops with SAMA. The most recent of which was held in December 2014, and was designed specifically around SAMA’s selection of topics. This event involved Visa colleagues from the US, Singapore, Dubai & The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), representing Government Relations (GR), Legal, Global Arbitration & Compliance (GAC), Client Support Services (CSS), and Business Development of the KSA.

The school was provided with an opportunity to deliver Seychelles’ first workshop on Electronic Payments, way back in April 2013. It is great to see Visa’s efforts come to fruition with the launch of e-government payments in the country on Thursday, 21 May 2015.

The quote below from the Central Bank of Seychelles Governor, Caroline Abel speaks volumes:

“I would describe the introduction of this system as a symbolic milestone in the modernization process of our national payment structure as well as a compelling example of public-private collaboration where organizations came together to put this e-service in place.”
