In a world where half the adult population is unbanked, extending secure and reliable financial services to more people is a challenge that requires the collective will of governments and the private sector. This is particularly true in Rwanda where 77 percent of the population lacks access to formal financial services. The Rwandan government has ambitious goals, as part of its Vision 2020 plan, to bring financial services to the majority of the population. Visa is supporting Rwanda in its mission and will help deliver programs that extend access to financial services for people throughout the country. Through its newly formed Charter of Collaboration with the government, Visa will help lay the foundations for electronic payments, promote innovation, and build capacity to ensure the long-term sustainability of financial systems.
